While preparing to become a mother, many people often have lingering questions about dos and don’ts in daily life. One of the most frequently asked questions, right alongside dietary concerns, is: “Can we go for a relaxing massage during the egg stimulation or post-embryo transfer period?” Today, we bring you the answers and precautions straight from doctors.
- During Egg Stimulation
During the egg stimulation phase, the body receives hormones to stimulate multiple eggs to grow simultaneously, resulting in the “ovaries becoming larger than usual” and more fragile than before. You can get a muscle-relaxing massage on certain upper body areas, such as the neck, shoulders, upper back, or upper back muscles.
- Precautions: Massaging the abdomen or receiving treatments in a prone (lying face down) position is strictly prohibited!! Because massaging the abdomen, applying pressure, or undergoing treatments requiring a prone position can cause impact or pressure around the pelvic cavity, risking ovarian torsion, which is extremely dangerous.
- Post-Embryo Transfer Period
This is the most fragile and crucial period because the embryo is traveling to implant in the uterine wall. All types of massage should be avoided, whether it is traditional Thai massage, aromatherapy massage, foot reflexology, or acupressure. This is because massage may overstimulate blood circulation or trigger reflex points on the body, which could cause the uterus to contract. Doctors recommend resting and avoiding activities that disrupt hormones in the body to ensure the safest environment for embryo implantation.

If you experience muscle soreness from stress or office work during the egg stimulation or embryo transfer periods, you can manage it with the following methods:
- Gentle stretching: Such as prenatal yoga or light upper-body stretching.
- Localized warm compresses: You can apply warm compresses to tense areas on the neck, shoulders, or back. Strictly avoid the abdominal and uterine areas.
- Get adequate rest: This is the best way to recover your body during the preparation period for motherhood.
Although the methods above can help relieve initial symptoms, every mother’s body is different. If you experience chronic back pain or severe muscle aches, it is recommended to consult your attending physician before engaging in any activities to ensure the utmost confidence.
