Select good sperm using the “PICSI” technique

“PICSI” is a method to help select good sperm for use in in vitro fertilization.

The method of selecting good sperm involves a dish that contains a substance called “hyaluronan.” The sperm collected will be allowed to swim and attach to this substance. The sperm that attaches to this substance is likely to be good sperm or have less DNA fragmentation.

Doctors may recommend this method for individuals with a DFI higher than 30% or those with a certain level of low motility sperm, to identify which sperm should be used for In Vitro Fertilization or ICSI.

Therefore, PICSI is an appropriate option for those who have undergone multiple IVF cycles without obtaining viable embryos.

Who is suitable for PICSI:

  • Individuals with low motility sperm
  • Individuals requiring surgery to retrieve sperm
  • Individuals with a small number of well-shaped sperm
  • Individuals who have previously failed ICSI or had few fertilizations
  • Individuals with recurrent miscarriage
  • Individuals who have obtained poor quality embryos after IVF
