Structural Problems of the Reproductive Organs

Structural problems of the reproductive organs often involve the fallopian tubes and the uterus. If the fallopian tubes are blocked, eggs cannot travel from the ovaries to the uterus, and sperm cannot fertilize with the eggs. Structural issues related to the uterus can interfere with the implantation of the embryo. Problems in both the fallopian tubes and the uterus are significant causes of infertility.

Some structural issues that can lead to infertility include:

  1. Endometriosis:

    • This occurs when the tissue that normally lines the inside of the uterus (endometrium) grows outside the uterine cavity.

  2. Uterine Fibroids:

    • These are non-cancerous growths in the uterine muscle.

    • Although most women with uterine fibroids do not experience infertility, some may find it difficult to conceive, have a higher risk of miscarriage, or experience preterm labor.

  3. Endometrial Polyps:

    • Polyps in the endometrial lining can disrupt the function of the uterus and increase the risk of miscarriage.

    • Surgical removal of these polyps can enhance the chances of conception.

  4. Uterine Scars:

    • Scars resulting from injuries, infections, or surgeries can increase the risk of miscarriage and may interfere with the implantation process, leading to infertility.

  5. Abnormal Uterine Shape:
